History
Originally purchased by our Great Grandfather Horace Eaton as a summer home in 1905, Edgehill has been the place for our family and friends to come together and savor summer in Maine for 6 generations now. For more than 100 years, we have been sitting on the porch with our friends and family, watching the schooners slide by on the Reach, and listening to the kids squealing with delight in the barn. We all know the trail out through the woods to the Millpond and can even navigate it on a moonless night. We each have our favorite rocks to sit on down at the shore (close, but not too close to the fire!), and we all have our favorite spot in some secluded part of the property where we are sure no one else has ever been.
We have always enjoyed spending time here, but we especially love the reaction when we bring a friend here for the first time. The awe and amazement and instant love for the place that people feel when they finally arrive here after what seems like forever driving down a series of ever darkening and twisting roads seems to be universal.
Many of us have been married at Edgehill, we've all brought our children and extended families for vacations, and a number of us have settled in the area, as well. This is a very special place, and since we have opened it for summer rentals, the entries made in our guest book show that even folks who may not share a decades-deep connection to the land, instantly understand the unique sense of place that is Edgehill.
